The Two Paths, The Two Awarenesses, and The Two Responeses – Part 3
Welcome to the third part of this three part series entitled 2 Paths, 2 Awarenesses, 2 Responses. Essentially, this series is designed to help answer the question, “How do I find my purpose?” and find and a true passion for life. In the first segment I discussed our choice of whether to travel on the Sacred Path or the Path of Compromise. And in the second part of this series I shared ideas about the two Awarenesses with you, subconscious awareness and conscious awareness.
As I’ve said in the first 2 segments, if you’d like to learn more about where you are in your personal Sacred Path Journey, I suggest that you complete the Begin Your Journey assessment.
Now let’s talk about your possible responses to your Calling. Regardless of whether or not you are consciously aware of your Calling, you have two basic ways that you can respond. You can either say “No” to our Calling, that is, you can resist its leading, or you can say “Yes,” or surrender to what our Calling is asking you to do.
Let me briefly describe the first possible response to your Calling, resisting. Whether or not you are consciously aware of your Calling, you can resist it’s leading. If you are unaware of your Calling (or life’s purpose) in your conscious mind, you are, in a sense, cut off from the communication you need to find your way. Perhaps you know that, “this isn’t it,” that’s “there’s more to life,” but you just don’t know where to look. In this case, you will need to improve your listening skills. Not human listening, but soulful listening. You’ll need to improve your abilities to hear your Calling,s leading. You’ll find a number of resources on this site you help you do this. In particular, download the 12 Weeks to a More Passionate Life Workbook to learn more about the Sacred Path, Joyful Journey approach.
On the other hand, perhaps you know, at least at some level of consciousness, what you deeply desire to be doing with your life. You know what you’d love to do, what you need to do, but you’re resisting this knowledge because the timing just isn’t right, or you feel it would be irresponsible, or your own self doubts tell you that your Calling can’t be real because you’re not good enough for such a mission. In the case of active resistance you will need to come face-to-face with the barriers that stand in your way to beginning your Sacred Path Journey. I’m not suggesting that this is an easy choice, but I am telling you that it is a choice, and that you must decide, and, because we don’t live forever, there is an expiration date and so, today is a good day to begin saying “Yes” to your Calling’s leading.
The second type of response is surrender. At the end of the day we must wholeheartedly sell out to follow our Calling’ leading. Perhaps this is a bit frightening, and there’s a very thin line between fear and excitement, but that’s what a Calling requires. We need to get it in our life, perhaps begin small, but ultimately we will have to become deeply engaged in its pursuit. And it won’t go away.
2 Paths, 2 Awarenesses, and 2 Responses. I believe this framework will give you a good way of determining where you currently are in your Sacred Path Journey. Again, if you’d like to assess where you fall on each of these dimensions, you can take the brief Begin Your Journey assessment here on the website and if you want to learn much more about the Sacred Path, Joyful Journey process, go to the 12 Weeks to a More Passionate Life program page download the free Workbook .
Remember, you are a unique person with unique gifts and talents and you are called to fulfill a purpose, and when you do, you will find a great deal of joy along your journey. Carpe Diem!
