The Two Paths, The Two Awarenesses, and The Two Responeses – Part 1

This is the first segment in a three-part series called The Two Paths, The Two Awarenesses, and The Two Responses. This first segment deals with our ability to choose between two different types life paths. And as you’ll see, your choice between these two paths has a significant affect upon your life. I should also mention that if you’d like to have a clear picture of where you stand on each of these three dimensions, the two paths, the two awarenesses, and the two responses, you can complete the Begin Your Journey Assessment found on the 12 Weeks to a More Passionate Life Journey Tools page. I think you’ll find that this assessment useful as you craft your own Sacred Path Journey. Essentially, this series is designed to help answer the question, “How do I find my purpose?” and find and a passion for life.  Now, let’s talk about the two paths.

Each day we have the wonderful privilege, and the responsibility, of choosing where we will travel in life. Of course, some of these choices are more difficult than others. What will we wear, what route will we take to work or school, what will we have for lunch. Of course, these are pretty simple choices. But even in the more significant decisions in life, we have a great deal of freedom. For example, we really don’t have to go to work, or stay in any particular relationship, or even pay our taxes. We get to decide, we get to choose what we do, and then, of course, we get to live with the consequences.

One of the most important decisions we make is what life path we’ll follow. When I say life path, I’m talking about our choice about where use our unique gifts and talents. Your personality, and experiences, and skills, can be used in an almost infinite number places, and you get to decide where. And this is a really big decision, but you do not have to decide in a vacuum. Traveling directions are provided for all of us. I’m referring to that quiet inner voice, a voice that tugs at your heart, the one that says, hey, here’s what you really love, go do this. Yes, while you may or may not be aware of it, you’re being called for a particular purpose. I’ll say much more about your recognition of this calling in the second segment of this series, the Two Awarenesses. But for now let me say that you essentially have two paths that you can choose in response to your calling. The Sacred Path or the Path of Compromise.

If you choose to listen to your calling, to follow the tugging at your heart that’s asking you to use your gifts and talents for a particular purpose, this choice puts you squarely on your Sacred Path. And when you travel on this path, you’ll make the world a better place. Perhaps in a very small way, or maybe on a grander scale, but the world will be better off because of your efforts. That’s the way the universe was designed. And here, on your Sacred Path, you’ll find energy, passion, and indeed a great deal of joy.

However, if you choose to ignore your calling, if you do not listen to that quiet voice, you will choose to travel on the Path of Compromise. And regardless of your degree of outward success, even if you find money and fame, you will never find true passion or fulfillment.

So, the wonderful freedom and capacity to choose your life path, can bring you passion, and energy, and joy if you choose to travel on our Sacred Path, or you will experience frustration and discontentment if you choose to travel on the Path of Compromise.

I’m not suggesting that this choice is easy or even obvious, but you and I make this choice each day, and the implications are profound. Now, every resource you find on this site is meant to assist you in discovering your gifts and talents and your calling, and to help you create the kind of fulfilling and passionate life that is possible.

Which Path will you choose today?
